The seamer was rested from England’s fourth Test victory over the Proteas at The Oval but still had to sit out his team’s 20-run victory in Friday’s opening One-day match.
The 30-year-old Sidebottom was ruled out of Tuesday’s second ODI at Trent Bridge following a fitness test on Monday. But his absence should not hinder England too much. Tim Bresnan had already been called up as cover, while Steve Harmison rescinded his retirement from One-day cricket to take two wickets at Headingley on Friday.
